Potamonautus lirrangensis

Potamonautus lirrangensis (synonym = Potamonautus orbitospinus (Malawi-crab)) can be found in entire Lake Malawi. They mainly are living there between the rocks which are covering the bottom, in shallow water on depths from 10 cm to 10 meters.

Potamonautus lirrangensis can grow to about 15 cm. You can best keep these animals in a tank which is not too small. It's crawling everywhere in the tank searching for food, sometimes it tries to bite other inhabitants and it's digging in the sand.
You can keep them together with all cichlids, although it's better to avoid putting small species together with this crab.
It's also necessary to cover this tank, it seems that they sometimes want to leave their environment.

In the lake they are feeding themselves with everything they find on and in the bottom, also small fish and snails.
